Activities and Attractions in and Around the Strand Area

A 40km or 20 minutes drive on the N2 highway from Cape Town city and international airport... Strand was founded in 1714 and originated as a holiday and fishing resort. It has evolved into a large bustling town famous for it's beaches, various watersports and picturesque beauty along the false bay coastline at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains. The close by towns of Gordons Bay and Somerset West offer many attractions and activities too as well as the short drives beyond 10km. Strand forms an ideal base from which visitors can explore the Cape Peninsula and its environs. Shopping malls, cinemas, banks restaurants and other amenities are within walking distance of Pips Place.

Beaches

Many beautiful beaches are close by including Strands own 5km of white sand beach which offers relative safe swimming and a variety of watersports like, surfing. kite boarding, wind surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sun bathing, and much more.

  Scenic Drives and Walks

The winding coastal drive between Gordons Bay and Rooi Els along the steep mountain slopes has many amazing views with several opportunities to pull to the side for photos and a picnic.
Beach walks can go on for several kilometers, but is never far from refreshments from one of the many shops along the beachfront.

  Whale Watching

Hermanus is the best whale watching destination in the world. Whales visit Walker Bay from June through to December. Hermanus is home to the world’s only Whale Crier who blows his kelp horn when whales are spotted along the central sea route.

 
     
Great White Sharks

Beyond Hermanus, lies the fishing town of Gansbaai, World famous for Great white shark viewing and cage diving. with spectacular sightings and close up encounters.

  Monkey Town

A haven for rescued animals, mosly monkeys and chimpanzees in Somerset West along the N2 highway before Sir Lowrys Pass.

The Cape boasts some the world’s best golf courses and with more than 40 golf course ranging from a 5 minute to hour drive from Pips Place, the choice is yours.

Within 1km you will find a supertube, putt putt course, huge protected tidal pool and a heated olympic size swimming pool are all available in strand for the whole family to enjoy together.

Some of the best angling is to be found right on the doorstep of Pips Place, close by on the rocky points between Gordons Bay and Rooi Els and deep sea fishing charters are available in the area too.
